How to Sew Stripes onto Pants
I have been having some frustrations when trying to add pink stripes to a pair of brown pants.
Both materials are the same kind of cotton stuff, frays terribly when cut. So, I cannot just cut out a stripe and stick it on.
The pink fabric I have for the stripes is a little too see-through over the brown fabric, but it looks fine with two layers.
Seems my only way to double up on the pink stripes is to cut out two stripes, line them up and sew the edges, then turn it right side out and sew it onto the pants. My friend told me I would not be able to do that or double up on the fabric at all because apparently it would bunch up or look awkward. My second idea is to cut out the fabric of the pants where I want the stripe, sew the edge so it isn't all frayed, and sew the pink fabric in the opening.. It would just be tricky where the pink fabric meets the crotch seam.
Any suggestions for the easiest or nicest looking ways to get the stripes on?
(The pink stripes will be 1 1/2 inches wide, and the brown fabric between them will be about 3 inches)
