Too Much Eyeliner?
Okay, so this is an issue concerning both my normal appearance and my cosplay appearance. So I have really small eyes, when I mean small, I mean little bitty monolids. Haha! So I'd learned that circle lenses probably won't be available for me for a whiiile, and eyeliner actually makes my eyes pop and look bigger. I've gotten into a habit of making my eyeliner pretty thick(I use liquid by the way), and everyone tells me how pretty it looks, but I also get the occasional, "You wear a lot of makeup!!!" I do look VERY different without all of the black on my eyes, but the truth is, I usually only wear eyeliner and the occasional foundation, so I don't wear a lot of make up, but the huge amount of eyeliner makes it seem like I do. So I gave a shot of thinning the line, and I've been so used to making thick lines on my monolids that I can't seem to make it thin without messing up!!!! I want to try and go for a more natural look, but it's not working out the way I've planned. xD I also want my cosplays to look more natural than...well...fake-ish. I've tried normal eyeliner, but its lines aren't as defined even though I've sharpened it, so I can't get it to show up well on my skin. So...any help? BTW, there's an attachment of how I usually look, ignore my expression, I was really tired when I took the picture. (:

That amount of eyeliner is A LOT. It actually makes your eyes look smaller. I suggest trying to use a brown maybe? and use it very thin.

I have the same problem with small eyes~ >< but it does seem that your eyeliner line is a tad thick.
What you want to do instead of the same thickness all the way across, try starting with a thin line starting from the inner most part of your lash line and have the line grow in thickness as it reaches the outer-most part of your lash line Also What I do when putting on regular eyeliner (everyday makeup) I start my line center of the eye, I rarely draw the line all the way across my eye. And I only use liquid on my upper lash line as well because whenever I use pencil, even ones that advertise to be waterproof, 24-hour, smudge-proof my monolid likes to smudge it away Kandee Johnson has a great video teaching people how to make their eyes appear larger http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=75NCOuQprwU |

As you have monolids, Jen's tutorial (heck, her entire channel!) may inspire you. Try some of the techniques she uses until you're happy with your makeup. Good luck!

i honestly dont mine people using that much eyeliner during cosplay, because most anime or manga character are drawn with thick black eyelash line. Try using spidol type liquid eyeliner if you want to try make it thinner, like the dolly wink one.

Jeez, if what you did is considered a lot of eyeliner, mine must be a shet ton >:I
Anyways, I'm also just working on using more eyeshadow instead of eyeliner to open up my eyes more. Because like your friends have said, a lot of eyeliner sometimes looks like you did heavy makeup. Although, like Yumi has stated, a lot of makeup in cosplay I find okay. A lot of Asian cosplayers use heavy makeup from the photos I see and only on rare occasions does it look really bad. Many times it looks artistic and decorative~ Also, mascara helps in opening up "asian styled" eyes as well. ![]()

I'd look for an eyeliner for your lowered lids that you can twist. They seems to be darker and you don't need it as thick. As for your upper lids. Yeah I'd do a thinner line to start with and make it gradually thicken. My best friend does that and she has the same problem, which is why she does it like that. Good luck! Honestly the less makeup you were in the long run is soooo much better for your skin. You age faster if you wear a lot so good luck!

Another way to open up your eyes is to highlight them with a creamy colored shadow or cream pencil right at the tear duct and maybe a light line across the bottom right along the waterline and then do a bit of black or brown just below that on the lash line. I'm also a fan of starting the black across the lid at the tear duct thinner and then getting thicker and winging it out at the end. It lengthens the eye a bit. I have small eyes (no monlid, I'm totally the typical looking white girl), so I have learned ways to open my eyes out more, especially for cosplay.

Wow, thanks everyone for your suggestions. Usually when I open my eyes more, the line doesn't look as thick, but when I'm tired or I'm looking down, yeah, the amount of eyeliner shows drastically. Well thanks for all the suggestions! It's really going to help me improve! ^^
