[First Cosplay WIP] Military Captain Britain

Hey guys,

I'm planning on going to the Northants International Comic Expo (NICE) next month, and I decided to have serious stab at a cosplay.

After weeks of labourious research, I have put my initial choice on hold and have decided to go for something more ambitious: a military looking Captain Britain.

So far, I've mocked up and began the helmet construction:

My initial mask:

Refined front:

Final card template:

Ready for paper mache:

After 2 layers:

I'm going to make a rough neck cover from some red fabric tonight, and I've ordered the rest of the clothing, which is all military styled. Will update over the next few days.

It's a mixture of these two, but I'm not following them 100% since I'm trying to make it an original interpretation.

Hm, I'm getting a bit frustrated with my posts not appearing haha.

Er these links show what inspired me, but I'm sorta hoping to do my own interpretation of the character:

An update: My shin and arm guards came today, along with the jumper I'm planning on using for the main top:

(I'm still working on the hood. The original design I had needed a spandex-y type material, whilst I'm using 100% cotton, so it's a bit more labour intensive and trial and error).

Now to hem, sew the pattern to the top, alter the shoulders as needed and then paint the white outline on the pattern.

Update:

Duct tape outline:

Didn't really work, had to smoothen it hand. Simply Spray stencil sucked, it stopped working after a few sprays, watse of money. Used Dylon Fabric paint instead.

Finished both sides:

I'm not going to wash it, even tho the fabric that's been painted will then become soft, as I'm afraid that the colour may run into the white (even tho I've fixed it by ironing over a cloth over the paint). I really don't want to have to do this again, especially with the convention round the corner.

Now to stitch it to the jumper and add in the hood to the back.

I also removed the wrist pads from the forearm guards and made it easier for my fingers to move in the pads. I've also added another 3 layers of paper mache to the helmet, and a another layer of gesso. Should be ready to paint it soon as I get the right materials.

The final product:

Worn at NICE last weekend. Was a blast. Came 3rd in the cosplay competition, rightly lost to 2 'Walkers' and Zatanna.
