And let's make them cheaper. You can also get them at Michael's and Joann's in the woog crafts section for less money.

The plugs look a lot like this
http://www.widgetco.com/button-top-wood-plugs But they sometimes can be found with a thinner stem part that's longer

Do you think this would work for a Sephiroth sword? Obviously the sword would not be as wide or thick, but the same general concept for construction of the sword.

This is a great tut on one: http://www.cosplay.com/showthread.php?t=76828 Follow this and be sure to look under all of those pics there, because there is another pic that shows what to do for longer swords like his.

Ok, well I already had the foam from a previous project so I thought I would ask. I'm not sure about the wood seeing as I have no power tools and I really don't have that much cardboard either. Thank you for answering though.
Awesome job on the sword by the way. |

WEll, using the foam will be very flimsy and will easilly break. The cloud one won't because of it's size, but because sephy's is so this, it would snap under any wind. If you really want to do it out of this stuff you could fiberglass over it. But I don't know or sure how well that would work..

I actually thought about mentioning that..But When I went to the store, the thinnest they had was 3/4in and that would be almost impossible to split to get anything inside it..And if you use 2 of them, it will look really thick and odd. So it's kind of a lose lose. If they have like a 1/2in one I guess 2 of those wouldn't look too bad..But I didn't see any that thin so I can't say there ARE any..

If you made the Masamune out of foam though, couldn't you reinforce it by sticking some thin yet stiff wire through it without having to cut it in half? A proper wire ought to be able to cut through stuff like insulation foam without too much issue. Then if you attached a strong handle and fiber glassed it for a smooth finish + extra stength.. theoretically couldn't it be possible?
I think that no matter what you do the darn thing is going to be fragile and hard to carry around really.. if it's anything much less than a real sword that is. I saw someone with one that appeared to be foam and tin foil at SC one year.. it wasn't holding up well... but with said reinforcement, it would surely do better. |

Hmm..That could work..The person would have to very carefull though..As the wire could very easily pop out of the side, top or bottom..But saying they would still need to fiberglass it would make that kinda pointless I think..Since fiberglassing it should make it strong enough without the wire in it, bringing us back to the point I said in the first place..
