Well... I'm 14, almost 15, I'm a bit newer to cosplay but... I'd just like to say that it's been really nice for me because my parents pretty much pay for my costumes (take it out of my 'birthday money') and it's not a huge deal, but they understand that it's important. They even offered to fly me out of state for conventions.

I'm 14, but I only have been from a day less than a month. My parents give me my money, but that's because I don't have an allowance, and don't really have anything I need to buy...
So, do any of you guys know the feeling of not having any anime friends, so you can never share your joy with anyone?

I'm 17 years old. ^^ I pay for all my cosplay stuff (I got a job pretty much just for that) since my parents have always been firm believers of teaching me the value of money or something like that by not paying for these kinds of things. x.x The thing that really bothers me as cosplaying as a teen is that I make all my own cosplays, and people don't really give teens credit.

Example:

Its also a fact that most people 20+ are the ones sewing and creating the awesome costumes for commissions and for family members here and there and maybe themselves. Kids and Teens, although I am still considered a "Teen" but I feel much older when I see and meet other cosplayers, rely on adults a majority of the time to get their cosplay needs.

I work as a baby sitter for my money and it really isn't a lot. :P Not having friends at school that like anime and such sucked but my friends didn't mind at all that I did like it xD I just recently made some new friends that like anime

I just really only know the basics in sewing. I just recently learn (on my own) how to use the sewing machine xP I like working with crafts though They like me better than the sewing machine does xD

I have a job at a froyo place, and the pay plus tips is actually pretty good. My friends at school don't really like anime, but they think it's pretty cool that I make all this stuff so I can talk to them about cosplay.

As for sewing, I've known how to do it since I was a little kid. When I decided to start cosplaying, I just sat down at the sewing machine and started working. It really pays off in my cosplay that when I was little all I did was arts and crafts. xD

Well, I'm 16 and I have to pay for my cosplays. Thankfully I had a job to pay for it, now I'm job hunting XD. I buy/alter most of my costumes but I help my grandmother sew some.

This. I've been cosplaying...3 years next March, and I only have a couple of outfits I can actually wear ^^; I usually only get to buy costumes at my birthday (June) and Christmas, so I try to get something I won't wear once and toss out. But everything from my first year of cosplaying is either lost, broken, and I'm just not into KH anymore. Then my old Ciel outfit is too big on me..all I have right now is Len and Alois, and Alois really needs a lot of improvements.

I do buy everything myself, though, my grandma gives me a pretty hefty month allowance (since my sister has a job and ALWAYS makes our parents buy her stuff..which is why I don't.) but..it's my hobby, so I'm going to pay for it. If I don't have enough money for it, I wait, simple as that.

First year of middle school? It was me and one friend.
Second year? Me and her and a few video game playing boys.
Now? About 10-15 kids altogether that I know like anime. (though none get it as well as my online/con friends do)
It isn't much of a problem with me since I've been cosplaying for a while and thus have friends through that, and friends now who just accept it or are interested in it themselves.
(And just last week I met a guy who is now reading my mangas, talks to me about Vocaloid, and said the only reason he isn't cosplaying is because he would look bad. I'm totally considering making him cosplay Len and Rin with me [...with me as Rin. Obviously.])
