Help with a weird belt issue?

Hello, I need help with a belt, not necessarily constructing it, but how to hold it up without any seams, buttons or snaps showing. The belt buckle obviously is just for show and there's no way it'll actually hold up the belt, but there's no way to put anything in the back either, since it's quite detailed. I've had this problem before and I just used velcro, but velcro isn't going to be able to hold up something this heavy. Any tips on hiding a seam as well as holding the belt up? (I'm using pleather by the way, so I have to sew it vertically with a big ugly seam. I think.)

Actually yes, the buckle DOES hold up the belt. It seems to go all the way around..It sits in top of the part with the fur. What I would do it make the fatter furred part separate then make the the actual belt. the extra flap on the belt looks like it sits under his bag so it is unseen giving the illusion of it just sitting there with nothing holding it.

Take a look what I did here..You will see I put yellow on the belt thing. This is where the actual BELT is that sits on top the other part. Compare it to your picture above and you will see what I mean. If you make the back part have those belt loops like his do it will keep the belt on, and tightening it enough will keep it all on you as well.

The issue is that the belt buckle isn't actually going to be a belt buckle, it's going to be made out of craft foam. (Sorry for such a late response!)

I think you could hide a seam behind the pouch at the front, the only one you can see on the first picture.

Well you can still make it with a real buckle, Make it buckle UNDER the pouch. That way it's hidden..That's really all you can do. It HAS to buckle. you won't have a choice.

I think I could use some snaps, because belts are kind of hard. Thanks for the help everyone!

WEll, I was thinking that could work? But you gotta also think, belts are made the way they are so that they will NOT come undone walking around and moveing the way the body moves, Snaps however do not. They can easily come undone and them bam, it falls off.

Isn't there a way to attacher the fur underneath the belt to your shirt, and then attach the belt to the fur? That way you shirt will be the thing "carrying" the belt, and it won't be able to fall down - the question is just whether it can be made to look natural.

Anyway good luck, the costume seems really awesome ^^

Have you considered making the buckle out of styrene/ABS? Google and see if there's a plastics shop around (they sell stuff like sign sheeting and perspex), or you can hit up a hobby store. And get a bottle of Zap-A-Gap / CA glue / styrene glue. It'll give you a lot more rigidity to the buckle, and will look more buckle-like than craft foam.

As far as closing the belt goes, I'd do a double-snap (one snap above the other) hidden under the pouch.

The only other suggestion is that if you want to add velcro in there, tack it on to the back and as you sew the details, it'll sew the velcro on as well. Or, buy sticky velcro.

I was thinking double-snap under the pouch too. Also I was planning on putting Wonderflex over the craft foam so it would be more rigid.
