Aloysia Weber's eyelashes?

I'm having a SERIOUSLY hard time making these things. I thought that I could just buy some costume ones and modify them a bit, but it is NOT turning out like I thought it would.

What I'm trying to get to --> http://i65.servimg.com/u/f65/14/45/25/37/img_2119.jpg

What I started with --> http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...500_AA300_.jpg

Basically, I cut them in half and put the part closer to your eye on top of the outside part, and then used an old mascara brush and some pink paint and essentially just painted them. I brushed them out so they're not overly clumpy, and then added some bright pink eyeshadow on them; they're not pink enough. So I guess the shape is alright, but what might you guys suggest to get these things PINK? (Or maybe a better alternative all together?)

If you're stumped, this tutorial might be the answer. It seems less of a hassle than painting feathers. Good luck!
