I'm a green hand of making costumes, and recently I'm thinking about making a vest for myself.
What are points should I keep in my mind?
I've already brought 1 meter silk material, 1meter fabric with heart patterns, and ten brown bottoms.

I don't want to ruin this work, so any advice are welcome. Thanks a lot

a vest is actually fairly complex, because it is a tailored item. therefore get a pattern, not a tutorial but a real commercial pattern (Simplicity, Burda, whatever). When you read instructions that don't make sense to you, bring your questions here, we will help

Thanks, I just sew the silk and pattern fabric together, even I'm not satisfied with my work, and I'll give it a try someday. I believe I'll do better next time. ^^

There's a pattern tutorial stickied at the top of this forum; it should make a novice's first pattern use a little less intimidating.

what's the worst thing could be? just ruin the material, right? just go ahead to make it.

Practice on muslin or some other cheap fabric before you cut your final fabric. You're just wasting money if you cut up silk without knowing what you're doing.
