Which is a Better Compromise?

I plan on cosplaying as Astamon and the costume is almost done. But I'm running out of cash and time, so can't afford to get his suit form a store or get it commissioned like the over coat. Now luckily I do have two suits one plain blue and one black with pinstripes though Astamon wears blue pinstripe suit as shown below.

Can't take the blue one and temporarily add something to make the stripes? I am no seamstress or anything so I don't know if that would work at all, but there has got to be something you can do to make temporary stripes on the suit. Changing the color might look strange.... atleast to me.

I agree with Larcenciel. If possible you should take the plain blue and paint some stripes on. If that's not an option...hmm...I guess I'd go with the black w/stripes. It's easier to reconcile a slight color difference than it is a fabric feature (like stripes vs no stripes). Missing stripes, in my opinion, would stand out at first glance way more than a color difference.
