Cosplay Suggestions For A Shy Cosplayer?

Im rather new to cosplaying and got into it through my friend, thus it was only a few days ago that a went to my first cosplay convention.
I ended up not enjoying myself very much because of my inability to be talkative and very outgoing, so not many liked me.
I thought that maybe I'd have a better time if I went as character more suitable....
I'm thinking of going as Kau from Togainu No Chi since he cant talk, and acts like a dog.
Any suggestions for cosplays or tips on how to be more outgoing? Do you think cosplaying as a character with those traits would help?

Works pretty well for me in all honesty.

I think it would help yes. If you would be more comfortable as a character who doesn't speak then go for it! Whatever makes you comfortable. Also try not to worry about how other people think of you and try to have fun anyway. I used to be like that, I had horrible moments at some conventions because I was afraid the people my best friend met hated me becase I barley spoke and wans't crazy. I decided it wasn't worth ruining my good time for strangers, I want to make friends but if they don't like me I am okay with that. Cosplaying helps me a lot, acting like someone else opens me up to be more comfortable! I hope your next convention is a huge success! They are so much fun.

I know I find it easier to go as either shy or stoic characters so that I don't have to worry about acting as much.

Isnt Chii from Chobits relatively shy? Ive not read it, but seems like most Chii cosplayers Ive encountered are really reserved and purposefully shy.

Smile

Join the club XD I'm extremely shy, but I always cosplay as loud and outgoing characters. Just be around a friend you trust and you'll naturally smile no matter what If you can't be with a friend, think of a really good memory you have.
Also, I personally believe that one should cosplay as someone they like. I cosplayed as Serah Farron last year because my BF convinced me that our personalities were alike, but that's my least favorite cosplay now... If you're going to dedicate time and money, make it a memory worth remembering
BTW, who cares if they don't like you!? You're obviously an amazing person! They're the ones missing out
Hope this helped ) Now I'm off to do .. *shudders* Geo Homework T.T

You should go as Shy Guy from Super Mario, no explanation needed. :P

You could always go as other non-talking characters as well. There are plenty of people out there that do pretty darn well by staying in-character and it drives the fans positively nuts. Slenderman is a good example, there was this guy that was walking around at the one con I was at dressed as him and the entire time he didn't talk but he did walk around and sit in the backdrops of people's photos by photobombing at a passive distance.

That's awesomely creepy! That leaves one heck of an impression, especially of you compare to people just running around screaming because that's "in character".

To the OP: It's always the best if you can identify yourself with the character, so that you don't feel like you have to force yourself to be different.

Cosplaying as an outgoing character usually helps a lot of shy people.
But I also think just attending cons can make someone come out of their shell. I've attended 2 cons so far and in my first, I was so shy I couldn't even talk to anyone in the con and secretly stared at everyone in all. Not in a creepy way. The second, I was posing for everything. xD

This year (my second) I cosplayed as Taiwan from Hetalia. Her character is a lot like me.
You don't have to force yourself to be outgoing, you can also try to be a character who is a lot like you in personality.

I'm shy as well and I definitely do better playing characters who are either shy, soft spoken, or just don't say much, because then I don't have to go too far out of my comfort zone and I can still have fun being in character.

A few suggestions based on characters I've cosplayed, or seen others cosplay:
-Matt from Death Note - he just simply doesn't say much, he chills playing video games

-Canada from Axis Powers Hetalia - Very sweet and shy and soft spoken, a nice foil if you have a friend to play uber-outgoing America

-Kisa from Fruits Basket, also very timid

-Mori from Ouran High School Host Club - a man of few words

-Human Ariel from The Little Mermaid - no voice! Haha

-Lua from Baccano

-Sailor Mercury from Sailor Moon

I don't have any cosplay suggestions, but I do have some advice.

I wouldn't say that I'm shy, but I would say I'm not that particularly talkative. However, I find that I do get pretty talkative when I'm with a group of my particular fandom, talking about similar things. Maybe you should try the same.

Fluttershy from My Little Pony is notably shy! I also really like the "Voiceless Ariel" idea, that's pretty clever.

Sailor Saturn from Sailormoon. She doesn't tend to talk very much and she's really withdrawn. Hotaru Tomoe would be even better.

Since I'm shy too - can say one thing! Costume change everything!! Make up, wig, contact lenses and you are completely new person. Just think of character you like the most! You don't have to put yourself into somebody who's not speaking much or so. Remeber with costume everything changes ) Feel like you are this character - like you are in real anime.

Miyuki Takara from Lucky Star might work.
