Making wings in an usual way?

Hi y'all, I'm cosplaying Fluttershy and I have come across a couple different wing styles I would like to make. The problem? I have no clue what material to use. Felt is out of the question because of personal preference and such.

Really what I am aiming for is this style wing:

The cosplayer said she thinks she used Polyethylene foam. She isn't sure because she is from Russia so she doesn't really know the name of it in English.
So I looked up Polyethylene foam but there were so many options of how it could be I got lost.
It looks kinda thick and rough-ish in her picture.

If that doesn't prevail I though about this style:

On this one the cosplayer didn't say anything about it.

If you could identify the materials used in the pictures or suggest similar materials then that would be awesome.

Thank you!

The first photo does appear to be polyethylene foam, though it is thinner than I'm used to seeing available. It is commonly obtained as camping pads used under the sleeping bag. The camping pads are something like 1/2'' thick, and you probably want something closer to 1/4'' thick. I can't think of an easy place to get that thickness. By the way, I suspect part of what makes her wings look so cool is that she may be using an opalescent paint, which sort of makes it sparkle, in that oyster-shell sort of way.

The second person is using standard craft foam, aka Fun Foam, aka EVA foam. It can be found easily at craft stores. It is pretty friendly stuff to work with, and I would recommend it. You can certainly use the pattern in the first photo using this stuff as well. If you want thicker sheets of foam but cant find it in the store, you can simply glue together multiple thin layers of foam using contact cement and then cut it to your desired shape.

I'd sandwich some wire between layers of craft foam. You could use the wires to hook into whatever harness you decide to use, if you want to slide the wires into some kind of tube or socket on your back. Inserting the wires into slots on your back may eliminate visible straps. I've seen people do this with corsets with good results. You can also use the wire to pose the wings if you keep the foam fairly flexible.

I'm almost entirely sure that the wings in this picture are made/sold by Yaya Han. They're super popular at one of the cons I go to and have had a booth in the Dealer's Hall every year that I can remember. They are indeed made of craft foam and I think they're mounted with elastic loops that go around your arms/shoulders.
