I hope I put this in the right place. This is my first time posing in the forums and I am still a novice at cosplaying. ^^;;
I am currently finishing up my racing queen Miku cosplay for Youmacon and all that is left is her shoes. I wanted to be as accurate as possible, but also wearable so I decided to buy a pair of clear, high-heeled shoes and make the heel look similar buy shaping it with air-drying clay. Sounded easy enough. Boy was I wrong. The clay is cracking, uneven, and falling apart. I've tried sanding it down, which didn't do anything, and putting a smooth layer of clay on top, which didn't even stick when left sit for two days... My latest idea was to cover it in duct tape to get the smooth effect i want before paining them... but the duct tape wont stick and bunches up when it does.
Has anyone else made custom heels like this before or have any idea on how to get a smooth(er) finish without the shoe falling apart or breaking my bank account? .___.;; Any and all help is highly appreciated!
Here is some pictures of what I have done so far:
And this is what the shoes are supposed to look like:
