Spray paint question
So I bought a matte spray paint but for some reason it looks very shiny... are there any finishers/ways I can dull the shine with?

You can probably take a high grit sandpaper or steel wool to dull it back down.

Hehe!
As RJ said, you can take to it with a high grit (fine) sandpaper, and very carefully sand it back. It'll take the sheen off. |

ya satin is not matte, still has a slight sheen just not as high as gloss, def do the high grit sand paper/wool route to lessen it

A curious thing about satin/matte paints: they are actually exactly the same as gloss paints, only with a matting agent added. This matting agent acts like a bunch of tiny little lenses that cause the light to diffuse about in random directions as opposed to the light bouncing right off like on a mirror. Growing up, I always assumed it was the other way around, that gloss paint had special shiny chemicals in it that would rise to the top of the paint job.
Anyway, the point is, when working with matte paints, it is extra important to shake up the paint really really well, and continue shaking the can between every few seconds of painting. Otherwise, yeah, as said, easiest to increase the matte by either scuffing with something high grit. A scouring pad, mr. clean magic eraser, 1000-2000 grit sandpaper + water are all fun to play with. Or, you can paint it with a clear matte topcoat. |

ive heard you can use corn starch too, supposed to give it a "flat" look
mix it into the paint in small quantities and test till it looks right only do this for making small changes, you wouldnt want to gum up your equipment (starch will thicken up your paint) also im not sure if thats all there is to the method, so you might wana do a little research but it might be a cheaper alternative to geting new paint, or preferable over sanding |
