Thanks. I looked up Fanime. I have a Grandmother in the Roseville area I haven't seen in 15 years give or take, which looks to be around 2.5 hours from there. Maybe that would be a better option than AX if I can manage it. Although, it is one week after the biggest convention around here called Anime Central.

Fanime is great, in my club this is the most popular large convention that people go to. Even though it's a several hour drive, we get about twice the people driving up north to go to Fanime as compared to AX, a more local large con. Though last year with all the construction it could be difficult to find a good background outside without walking some distance from the convention center.
