I can combine your previous post and an unpopular opinion of my own. It is as follows:

I would gladly have punched Christopher Reeve.

Haha, controversial.

To be fair, people in wheelchairs can be dicks too, they're not magically voided of dickery as soon as they are wheel chair bound.

These are probably the same kind of people who think it would be awesome to have a zombie apocalypse...

HOWEVER, kid Loki is a different story and I wanna read Journey in to Mystery and bawl over him. T_T because he truly does deserve the sympathy as he is different.

Most likely.

It's a tad concerning how far people can take a fantasy, recently a young teen killed himself because his favorite Naruto character died in the show and his parents commented that he was having trouble separating reality from fantasy and they had told their son to 'watch less tv' before he committed suicide.

I suppose it just makes you wonder what exactly it is about particular individuals that cause them to withdraw into that fantasy so deeply that they would be willing to make major life changes or choices based on that fantasy.

I am talking about people who openly state "My life is pretty good, I am happy with my friends and family and romantic status" but then follow it up with saying they'd give their whole life away to live in Skyrim.

I think it's more of an issue where people may not be raised with a sense of appreciation for what they have topped with being a particularly vulnerable person. By that I mean maybe these individuals are the kind of folks who are unwilling or unable to grasp the sense of reality in their fantasy. While you and I know that living in Skyrim would more likely then not mean dyeing at 35 and living a life of poverty and famine these people do not grasp the reality of what they say and only see their fantasy as them being a sort of 'mary sue' of their own self.

I can totally understand the appeal of escapism. I've been in situations in my life where, although I wasn't in a deep depression or anything, I wasn't particularly happy with my day to day life, and having always been a geek, indulged in a lot of books/games/tv etc. During those times, you prefer taking your mind into those realities, rather than having to deal with your own. It sounds sad when you say it like that, but really, it's just carrying on thinking about that world after you've turned the TV off/closed the book. That's all.

I draw the line at 'not being able to separate fantasy and reality'. For me, escapism is nice, but no matter how deeply your surround yourself in that particular fictional world, you are always very aware that it is not real, and act accordingly.

However, I don't understand people wanting to live in Skyrim for a different reason: It's fucking boring. Like, sure, it's huge and gorgeous looking, but so is real life. It's kind of an empty, emotionless, characterless, story-less world. It just happens to look lovely.

Acting was my form of escapism, that way I could pretend to be these awesome characters who do awesome things but without bad repercussions. I could still be somewhere and someone else but at the end of the day i was me.

It isn't that I am anti-fantasy or escapism, not by any means. I am just pondering what elements come together to make an individual perfectly willing to leave behind all the people they care about to live a life that they cannot realistically grasp would not be anything like what they see in their minds.

It'd be an interesting psychology paper that's for sure.
