Ask a Japanese Person Panel!
Do you want to go to Japan one day? Are you expecting Hatsune Miku posters everywhere in Akihabara? Do you want to be prepared and know about Japan by talking with a Japanese person first to learn all the secrets to not be laughed at because of how foreign you are?
The Japanese Visitors Association (JAVA) will be performing a short skit on daily Japanese etiquette on Saturday at 10AM in the Ottawa Room of the Doubletree. Here you will learn about the different customs of living in Japan from how to use public transportation to common mistakes that foreigners make on vacation.
If you’re not interested in manners, then come to the same room at 11:00 for Ask a Japanese Person! (The program guide put the skit as a two hour block when it really is two separate one-hour panels.) The group will sit down and answer any and all of your burning questions about Japan from where to go in Tokyo for cheap electronics to how many times a giant monster destroys a building in a year. The answers you hear may surprise you! Because JAVA are Japanese people and/or have lived many years in Japan, they can tell you what is true and clear up some misconceptions from what we see in anime and manga.
BONUS FACT: COME IN YOUR COSPLAY AND GET INSTANT EGO BOOST. While they are aware of all the cosplay in Japan, it seems to have not occurred to them that people actually make their own. Show up in costume and they will become that stereotypical tourist and take your picture. Possibly, they will want to take pictures with you while you all hold up your hands in peace signs.
