Question Cape Assisstance Please

Hello~

Does anyone have any ideas how I could go about sewing Captain Harlock's cape? I am mostly concerned with that high collar he has. I'm completely new to sewing, but I'm up for the challenge! Even if you could refer me to some other character, or military uniform tutorial that has something similar I may be unaware of, that would be great as well.

Reference pics:

I Appreciate your help!

The easiest way to do this for a beginner is using a pattern then modifying it for your needs.
I find some pattern than might help you. using a pattern and modifying it for your first costume is really helpful and will teach you do much!
http://www.simplicity.com/p-2272-mis...-costumes.aspx (minus the hood and sleeves)
http://www.simplicity.com/p-3069-mens-costumes.aspx (minus the sleeves)

For the collar, you would definitely need some heavy weight interfacing.

Thank you PikaPandaPan!

I did not think to look up "hooded capes." Shows two minds are better than one, lol
I appreciate your help. Modification will definitely be the way to go for that collar. I'll just have to get creative~

I agree with PikaPandaPan on the pattern. I've recently made a cape but as I'm part of a history group we know a bit about what we're looking for.

For this one I would recommend buying the first pattern that she linked (http://www.simplicity.com/p-2272-mis...-costumes.aspx) then following it to make the grey one in the top right of the 4 pictured but leaving off the hood and sleeves. it's the closest to it.

with a bit of imagination you could get it to look like the one in the anime.
if you're unsure about it I recommend getting some cheap or scrap fabric and making a test one out of that first. if it goes wrong, maybe cut too short or doesn't fit right or look right you can fix it without worrying that you've wasted your good fabric.

i recommend the first link in by PikaPandaPan. its the closest to what you're looking for.

also it would be a good idea to make a test one out of cheap or scrap fabric. that way if it goes wrong like cut too short, doesn't fit or look right you can always adjust it without worrying that you've ruined your good fabric.

That's a wise idea, jessamacookie, thank you. I will definitely do that first.
I agree with the first link, too. A very great find. I appreciate all of the input~
