How to appear shorter/taller?
Although it's not an overly important aspect, my friends and I are really killing ourself over our Avatar: The Last Airbender costumes, and we have an Aang, a Katara, a Toph, and a Zuko. Our Aang is actually my friend's 8 year old brother, so it's A-OK there. The problem being that, I'm Toph, and I'm 5'6" -- our Katara is about 5'7", so there's not much of a height difference between me and her, so is there a way that I can make myself look shorter in general? And, on the subject of appearing taller, our Zuko is just a little taller than me, so other than some ridiculous shoes or something, is there a way to make him look taller?
(Sorry if this is in the wrong place; I had no idea where to put it!)

Well, looking shorter is easier than looking than looking taller, I suppose. It's half about the way that you carry yourself. Like, straightback, straight legs, all of this adds to a character's height (or subtracts from it).
But for looking generally smaller in a costume, have your clothes and the actual cosplay be a little too big for you, looser. This makes you look small.

I've run into this problem a lot with my cosplay friends. Trying to match heights is a nuisance, but we have started using either special height enhancing shoes or these insoles. At around $10 they're great stuff.
