Alternative Hotels?

Since the Adam's Mark Hotel is quite expensive for my budget...I wondered if anyone knows of other hotel in the area with lower rates.

Are you driving or flying?

There aren't a lot of hotels that I know of within walking distance of the Adams Mark, however, there are quite a few hotels in the Downtown Dallas area, so, if you had a car, it would make it easier.

However, I have no idea on the actual rates of the nearby hotels. I doub they'll be as expensive as the Adams Mark, but they may very well be.

Keep in mind, this is also the con rate, and it is a VERY GOOD DEAL for this hotel. The surrounding hotels may be similiarly priced, unless you find, like, a La Quinta or something.

Ok, I did some research.

Keep in mind that, while these hotels are all in the Downtown Area, I have no idea actually how close they are to the Adams Mark:

For reference:
Standard room rate at the Adams Mark for A-kon weekend:
214 dollars a night.

The Adolphus:
http://www.travelnow.com/index.jsp?p...=56236&fc=list
Runs 139 dollars a night.

Fairmont:
runs 159 dollars a night

The Westin City Center:
http://www.travelnow.com/index.jsp?p...=56236&fc=list
159 a night

The Magnolia
http://www.travelnow.com/index.jsp?p...=56236&fc=list
Seems to have a good deal, if you stay two nights, you get 20% off, which knocks your costs down to 95.96 a night, instead of 119 a night

Hotel Lawrence:
http://www.travelnow.com/index.jsp?p...=56236&fc=list
235 a night >>

Hampton Inn West End:
http://www.travelnow.com/index.jsp?p...=56236&fc=list
233 a night -_-

The Holiday Inn Aristocrat
http://www.travelnow.com/index.jsp?p...=56236&fc=list
99.95 a night

Amerisuites West End:
http://www.travelnow.com/index.jsp?p...=56236&fc=list
109 a night

And, probably the cheapest you are going to get,
The LaQuinta Inn Dallas City Place:
http://www.travelnow.com/index.jsp?p...=56236&fc=list

79.99 a night.

Again, like I said, I have no idea how close any of these are to the convention. I am sure none of them are in walking distance. I didn't SEE any hotels nearby when I was at the Adams Mark, but I will keep an eye out. Still, this gives you a general idea of what kind of rates to expect.

You could also make a thread saying that you are looking for someone to room with.. The more people in a room, the cheaper it gets

Thank you very much for the information.
My brother's driving so we searched for other hotels not so close-by and found Red Roof Inn Dallas Market Center for only $45 a night!
It seems to be about 15 minutes from the Adam's Mark.

That's cool.

I am going to warn you to keep traffic in mind. That entire area (I-35/75) iis often quite busy, especially on the weekends, as all the fun stuff is downtown.

Also, parking downtown SUCKS MUCHLY. I don't think there is a lot of parking actually AT the hotel. There are paid lots, but those will run you at the least, 5 dollars a day, and up to 10-15 a day over the weekend, quite possibly, depending on where you park. There is no free parking in downtown Dallas. Still won't run you as much as what you'd pay at the Adams Mark, just wanted to make sure you were aware of that.

The Adam's Mark is actually only $125 per night with the A-Kon rate. I might be reserving a room there shortly, if all goes well. If not... well, it's Mapquest time XD.

Btw, an alternative to getting around, other than driving:

http://www.dart.org/

Yes! Dallas has it's own public transportation system!

Actually, if you are flying in to DFW, you can take the Trinity Rail until it ends, and then take DART rail..which has a stop right outside the Adams Mark. Very very convient.

There's a link to the page. I imagine it has maps and timetables. I fully plan on using DART if I need to get around outside of the con...like I said, there is not really any free parking in Dallas, and I don't intend to have to pay 6 dollars every time someone wants to go get dinner. :O DART goes ALL over Dallas, except up to where I live, apparently. Damn you, DART!

Btw, on parking:
There is parking for the hotel. It costs 12 dollars. The hotel is NOT validating parking AT ALL. You can park in the hotel's parking garage, and play roulette, and hope you get to drive out when there is noone attending the exit station (it seems to work quite well at cons, actually)

Also, there is a paid parking lot right across the street from the convention center, that is, I BELIEVE 6 dollars a day, if I read the sign correctly. Honestly, even if I were staying at another hotel, I'd plan on getting to the con, and settling in for the day. Don't move your car until you are going home. Parking is a major...errr. PROBLEM in downtown Dallas.

Also, if you DO bring a car.
Take your stuff. Lock your car. Hide anything valuable that you leave in the car. Not to scare you driving people, but Dallas has a problem with little punks breaking into people's cars. If it's possible, and you are not staying at the Adam's Mark, I'd even suggest leaving your car at the other hotel, and taking DART if possible.

DART is totally awesome and really pretty easy too. ^_^ Just ask for help if you need it. People are generally really nice.
