So, I realized that a good percentage of the otakus in my high school are either band geeks or former band geeks. I am one. One of my close friends is the best flute player we have and the biggest Ed Elric fangirl I will ever know. Another use to play piano and is the craziest little fangirl I have ever meant. Half our jazz band watches anime, a graduate from last year was hooked on Bleach, the twins are Avatar fangirls, the bari sax player went to E3 and Otakon and is currently holding my manga hostage... the list goes on and on.

So, my question is, how many of you Otaku-band geeks are there? And if you are a band geek, what do you play?

This is not a forum for haters to hate, and people to bully band kids.

Do you know what it feels like to get run over by a four-man bass-line? Pick on people in this forum, and you might find out.

Closest I was to band was the violin and my enjoyment of singing/dancing/theatre... that's it

I graduated high school in 2007, but I spent all four years as a flutist in the school band! I also took piano lessons for about four years, and played several video-game/anime pieces at recitals. (Hello, mortified facepalm when I told the jury at one exam that I was playing Aerith's theme, and they wrote it as "Eric's theme")

I was in drumline but I had to quit this year because of my job.

I play trombone, bass guitar and french horn. But since graduating I don't play much. I did get roped into helping for one of the jazz ensembles at uni because they are short on Trombonists.

I do have an intense love for all music technology however, and have copped a lot of shit for being a completely digital DJ. I'd like to see half the other DJ's I know using ableton and serato at the same time.

I play french horn and marched the mellophone for the first time this year ^^ Most of the marchind band (all 20 of us- how pathetic) is made up of fangirls. This year we did La Nouba: The Music of Cirque du Soliel. We are trying to get our band irector to give in and let us do K-ON next year :3

I was kinda spoiled in my high school experience (graduated in 2002). It's difficult for the band kids to be the outcasts when 1/6 of the school is somehow related to the music department from marching band to the spring musical. We were the only activity that had their own school dances.

Anyway, I played flute/piccolo before HS, during HS, and into college. I dabbled with trombone for a while too.

I currently own a flute, a piccolo, a trombone, two electric basses (one is a microbass), one acoustic guitar, one bamboo flute (used for my Amiboshi cosplay), one pennywhistle, a ukulele, and a double ocarina. I actually play my oc a lot these days. Just pick it up and doodle.

I was in Marching Band, Concert Band and Chorus all thru high school. We were mostly geeks of one variety or another.

(I played flute and was an alto. I'm not an alto. I'm that awkward place between soprano and alto.)

I've played flute for 9 years! I also play the ocarina too, but never in a real concert setting. (That would be a lot of fun, though!)

Our concert band has a max of 50 people. With marching band and color guard combined, we have 20. Literally, everyone plays two instruments, the ones that have jobs join marching band, and the others al do jazz and percussion essemble. 50 people out of a school of 1500...

I've got my BA in music (dropped the music therapy degree my senior year...), so I've been playing 15 years now. Though recent events have impeded me from playing for about a year now... starting to feel oddly guilty about that.

In high school I doubled up on flute and bassoon. Literally half my schedule was music classes. In college I was on flute, bassoon, guitar, piano, and autoharp. And singing for all of the music therapy stuff.

I was also in Symphonic Anime Orchestra (and Quartet) for 5 years, which also led me to piccolo. Which is the devil's instrument. >_*

Jazz band teacher wanted me to play jazz guitar for them....he went into guitar class and asked if anyone could play jazz..I played my riff and he said ok I want you. I turned him down because jazz isn't my thing, but that's kinda close right?
