Foam?
Hey all
Now since a couple of days ago i discoverd i could make armor with foam (thought paper was the way to go at first) anyways ive looked night after night and couldnt find any supplier in the UK or the netherlands (atleast a company that ships to the netherlands) The foam im looking for is up till 6 mm and in the US its called ''Best Step antifatigue foam mat'' or ''EVA Foam'' now im kinda hoping somebody on this forum is able to help me with that so i can start making my cosplay costumes |

You can also look at "L200" it is what Hollywood professionals use in some of their prop and armor stuff. It was actually recommended by Steve Wang & co through our friend.
But fyi L200 is essentially the same thing as EVA foam & craft foam, from what I can tell they're all polyurethane foams, and more importantly, they all behave about the same relative to each other. Here is where I get mine, but I'm sure you can find it in the UK easily under the names craft foam, Eva foam, or L200. http://foammart.com/index.php?pg=hom...ll#closed-cell And if you don't believe me that pros use it here is an armor that is partially made of it, and Steve Wang of Predator series fame made it. ![]()

ya yoga mats are the way to go unless you want to talk to alibaba.com for 6mm.
you can get roles of 3mm. if ya want to double up :/

well maybe with the yoga mat coming in i can see what kinda of foam it is so maybe its easier to find out where to get roles from it if i indeed continue in making foam armors
And ye...alibaba.com for now is abit to much, i do know that sears.com ships international (and since the roll is 19 euro's it will ''dodge'' the taxes) but for some reason the site is bugged so for now ill just have to wait for a fix to come up |

You might also want to check your local craft store for things called Foamies. You can usually get the thinner pieces from any place that has papercrafting supplies.

Right, it probably isn't called "foamies" in the Netherlands, but large craft stores usually have an entire aisle devoted to EVA foam. Though sometimes they don't stock either the really big or the really thick sheets. I suspect that once you receive your yoga mat, you'll recognize the stuff.

what your going to want to do is look for fitness mats or "anit-fatigue floor mats" in a local hardware store and in most sporting good stores, just have to look in some unusual places, I've found it at, a Harbor Freight Hardware, Sears in the fitness department, and Walmart in the automotive isle.
These will be anywhere between 6mm to 8mm thick or you can find it in the 1/4 to 1/2 thickness. use the standard fun foam 2mm to 4mm thick for small details. If you would like ideas on where to find the stuff hit up some of the guys on therpf.com, they will point you to some international dealers since most of these guys either live or work internationally, many of which are also professionals or pioneers in EVA foam building props.

Well i finally got the ''yoga mat'' but (this might just be me) it isnt cutting very well so im guessing it isnt the right typ...
Now ive tried sears to get a anti-fatigue mat, and it was around 20 euro's so i thought ''well this aint bad'',but then i saw the shipping and ye..... all of the sudden it was 155 euros. Im still looking for it on amazon or ebay and even there they only offer small sheets ( A4 paper sized ones) and i kinda need a roll or a mat. and once again thanks for all the help =) |
