Anyone ever used motors before?
Like, the small electric ones?
I've got some time between semesters to tackle my Dragoon Shana cosplay again and rebuild the chest piece. While I'm at it, I figure I might as well work on getting the wings to raise up and down if possible so I can have them at the proper height for pics and the cosplay comp, but be able to bring them down to fit through doors and not be taking out ceiling tiles as I go. there are manual methods I've considered, but I'd like to use a motor if possible for ease of use. Anywho, if this is going to work, they're going to have to be fairly small, but be able to deal with a decent amount of weight (minimum 15ibs). Also, this had little/nothing to do with those motors, but I'm thinking of putting LEDs into the wings. Anyone know the best place to get those? Cheers, WatchingDawn |

There are so many ways to do stuff with motors, I'm not sure what exactly is going to be the best thing. I've never made motorized wings.. but if you had a way to do it manually that would be easy to adapt to a rotary motor, then I'd look into maybe using a cheap cordless drill or driver. Just be sure to think about how they will lock open- if the motor has to apply tension all the time to keep the wings open then it'll get hot and kill the battery.
As for LED's, again, tons of options. I've gotten bulk LED's from digikey and jameco, but you probably want tape or rope or something like that. You might try superbrightleds.com or whatever else google turns up for that sort of thing. Also don't forget to look at EL wire, depending on what you want to do. |
