HELP! Early 18th Century Lady Aristocrat Dress
I'm planning on cosplaying as Aveline De Granpre from the new Assassin's Creed III: Liberation PlayStation Vita game next year at Comic Con in late April. Here's a wikia profile:
http://assassinscreed.wikia.com/wiki..._Grandpr%C3%A9 However, I have yet to see some one else do her before so of course no tips on how its done but I need to find a sewing pattern for her skirt and jacket for an Aristocrat lady in the French Lousiana during the Louisana Rebellion. Here's a pic of her dress as the concept artwork: ![]() and a semi-back photo of her dress: ![]() Any infor will be helpful since I'm a beginner at this! ![]() ![]() Thanks!

The costume is difficult, even just to look at and understand what is going on. From what I can tell, it is made up of
-a jacket -a waistcoat (with multiple collars?) or a combination of waistcoat and corset - Several overskirts: at least 5: Green, green, black, black, black/gold/white - A underskirt Under all this, there is probably a pair of stays/corset, and some kind of structure to hold out the skirts: perhaps a small hoop or a bum roll. For the jacket and underskirt, these patterns might be a good place to start http://store.reconstructinghistory.c...ng-outfit.html http://store.reconstructinghistory.c...0s-mantua.html This website has some costumes from the 18th century, which might help you with construction You will have to be careful with the kinds of fabric you choose, because all the layers of this costume will make it very heavy. Choose thinner materials for the inner skirts: only the outer skirt needs to be made of brocade (or similar) One thing you could try, if you have a body form (or can make one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x--8bbDFR3U) is to use scrap material to drape the skirts you want to create http://browse.deviantart.com/?q=drap...orial#/d4dabv1 Also, I recommend reading Janet Arnold's Patterns of Fashion Vol 1 to understand how these garments are constructed

Thank you for the info! I looked at the links and there's a lot to learn from but I got until April alone to get it done. Thanks again!
P.S. Since I'm not interested in using a Christmas Tree for the stand of my dress form can I use a dress rack or staff and use that. I can't really get a tree in my dorm room... ![]()

Well, for my dress form stand I'm using a tall stool: the form rests on top of it. It is a little annoying because the form is easy to knock over, but it does the trick. But if you want to use a pole, any kind of pole should do.
