Transporting large, potentially delicate weapons...
Hello all! This year for Aki Con I'm going to be Maka Albarn, including her scythe. I'm already bringing more cosplay than ever before, so the car is going to be tight on space, but I'm wondering what the safest way to transport a six foot tall scythe is? It is sturdy, but not unbreakable. All suggestions are appreciated. ^^

Mhhhmm I have the same issue...I am cosplaying Black rock shooter and I have to get a large 5 foot cannon into a car with a bunch of other people in it...Well although I don't have a guranteed answer I would say wrap it in something (bubble wrap, blanket?), make a little space in the car where there are no bags, try and keep it from moving aroud in the car, maybe creat a baracade aroud it or make someone hold it or hold it yourself. Obviously do not put anything on top of it! And maybe put some soft cushioning under the weapon? I hoped that helped a bit! Good luck!

Lay the scythe down the centre (assuming a common sedan) between the 2 front seats so the end of the pole is at the passenger's feet and the blade rests on top of everything else that might be in the back? (Like other passengers)
This is too late now but it's always nice to try and build your prop so that it can break into smaller more manageable pieces. Like use those pvc pipes with threaded ends so you can screw them together for long pole thingys XD |

I agree with Yavarice. I can fit my Ryuk scythe in the back seat of a 4-door car, but it has to go first and then people can get in, haha. The pole is pvc with threaded ends.

I had issues figuring out how to transport my sword and it was only 3 feet long.

Thanks, that sounds like the best idea for getting it there and back. :3 Thanks again for the advice!

Same issue here...
I'll be making 2 scythes for my Maka Albarn costume for Metrocon 2013. One will be the regular scythe, the other will be the Witch Hunter. Where would I find threaded pvc piping? I just checked Lowes and Home Depot online, but didn't see it. Help!

Hehe, you're not the only one, I'm considering making a huge Objection sign for my Apollo cosplay and wondering how to pack that down. xD ...also need to pack down Redglare's cane, so that's two big things... can't really help though...
