How many hours on average do you spend in line at a con?

Let's say a con starts at 9AM Friday, and ends 3PM on Sunday. This leaves about 54 hours of con time for said con. Add an additional 24 for Expo.

Some people get in line and wait for hours for autographs, good seating and the masquerade, as well as badge lines. I know some go the pre-register thing on Thursday, so I guess you can count that too. How many hours all together do you think you tend to spend?

See, outside of Pre-register lines, I pretty much never get in lines, and walk into places. Most of my areas are never full.... like gameshows and the dealers room. Masquerade is about the only thing I would need to, and the AMV contest, but my group 99% of the time has a finalist with us, so we get reserved seating.

How about you folks?

Cosplay 1: Sailor Venus (Commissioner failed to make 4 month deadline)
Update: August 10th.... still nothing.

Reality: Recycled or no cosplay at all. Got to love commissioning! Thanks everyone!! Serious thanks to Dulcinea, who actually made the deadline for the accessories far in advance and of outstanding quality. Sucks they won't be used.

I've only ever been to small conventions, so waiting in lines doesn't really happen to me. Other than pre-reg, I sometimes wait in masquerade seating lines if I'm not involved and have reserved seating. Sometimes there's a panel that runs late and I end up waiting outside it, but that's more of a clot than a line.

Still, though, if you have good line partners, it's almost more fun than the panel itself.

It depends on the conventions. For anime conventions I don't usually have to wait in many lines because I'll buy my pass ahead of time, and I don't often go to panels unless something really strikes my fancy. When it comes to autographs, I always tend to want autographs from the people that don't seem to have as many fans. XD
At larger conventions, though, such as the Star Wars Celebration, I'll wait in lines for quite some time, depending on what it's for. I've stood in line for an hour or two for autographs, and I stood in line for three hours once for closing ceremonies (which was all for nothing as it got canceled after a bomb threat).

To me, one of the best things about Otakon last year was how organized and breif the lines were. I only had to wait about 10 minutes for the pre register line, but I got mine on Thursday evening. (Some people who had gotten their's on Friday morning had to wait 2 or 3 hours in the heat though.) Then on Saturday the Dealer's room was so crowded we had to wait in line for about 30 minutes. The group I was in really didn't go into anything that required lines after that, which was really nice since we all had things to attend to like photoshoots.
But on average, I don't spend that much time waiting in lines. I do go to a lot of smaller conventions, but the average waiting time would be about 15 minutes, because I would be waiting for a panel to start or at a food place.

The past two cons I've gone to, despite pre-registering, I waited in line for about three hours. (Both cons happened to be having the same problems the same year). Other than the horrendous pre-reg lines though, I generally only have to wait 15 minutes at the very most for panels and such.

Probably at-con registration is where I spend most of my time in line. And it really depends. I think the longest I have been in line was 15 minutes? Or was it 30 minutes? Somewhere around there.

I hadn't been to any panel, concerts, or special events yet out of my 3 years of con-going, so nothing to count there. And I think I only waited about 5-10 minutes for my autograph from Monica Rial (it was getting close to dealer hall closing, and so the line was short, I got lucky!).

Pre-reg lines being the most along with the line for the masquerade. I don't really go to panels unless my friends want to so those are never really an issue.

I normally spend anywhere from 2-8 hours in a line most cons. It depends on what/how many events I want to go to or how early/late I get to registration. The longest I waited at my last big con was about 2 hours for on event and not much if anything after that, around 6 for the whole weekend. Not so bad. c:

Hmm, really depends on the con. For AX I normally would spend 3 or so hours in the pre reg line and then probably another four or five hours in panel/event lines depending on how many of the bigger panels I want to go to...so perhaps around 8-9 hours total in line. I splurged for the Premier Pass this year specifically for front of line privileges and shorter event lines, so I'll be interested to see how much my line time is cut down this year

I don't spend a lot of time in lines. Except maybe when picking up my badge at a large convention, and that usually is brief anyway. I generally don't attend that many panels (unless it's something that's interesting to me) and masquerade lines are usually first come first serve anyway.

Seconding (thirding?) the "depends on the con" statement.

At Fanime I expect to spend several hours in line for pre-reg (generally because I line-up early). The rest is negligible. My group is rather restless, so unless we're dying to see something, we show up late after the lines are gone. We don't mind loitering in the back of panel rooms and the like.

I imagine those who prefer to see panels and main events on time (not to mention autograph lines, which can be brutal) would expect much more time spent in lines.

Fourthing(?) the "depends on the con" thing.

It also largely depends on the con schedule for the day, and what you wish to attend. Usually there isn't a line at any panels, and there isn't so much a line as there is just a mass of people in the dealers room. Autograph lines, however.. hoo-boy. I've waited mere minutes in them, I've waited several hours in them. It depends on the popularity of the autographer and your dedication.

Look, I really wanted Tara Strong to sign my cover of Kingdom Hearts 2, ok? The bronies were ENDLESS. D,:

0 mins outside of registration line. I never really done anything that had a line
For registration, which would be pre-reg, usually 15-45 mins depending on which con.
