Amaterasu (from Okami) Cosplay: Celestial Brush Prop

Hello everyone!

So, I am in the gradual process of (hopefully) re-making a cosplay from last year: a gijinka Amaterasu, from the game Okami.

The character, for everyone who is not familiar with the game, is a wolf goddess named Amaterasu. I am making a humanized version of her. As opposed to the "warrior" version I made last year, I am going "Goddess" mode this time around.

This is Amaterasu.

And here is the costume itself!

What I want to make is a giant sumi brush for the costume. Most likely about 5-6 feet in height. I want this to be made due to how Amaterasu's powerful "Celestial Brush" ability is vital to the gameplay and the character as well.

Sadly I have no general idea on how to construct such a thing. Any help is much appreciated, thank you very much. : )

How durable do you want this to be? Also how much weight is OK for this?
When in doubt, just take the next small step.
With that next step take a deep breath. It calms the mind.
When the mind is calm you realize the best is still yet to come.

Go to a fabric store that sells upholstery fabrics, bat your eyelashes at the employees until the give you an empty cardboard tube. Buy a chunk of the longest fun fur you can find (about 1/4 yard would suffice). Roll up your piece of fur and glue it inside the end of your tube. Brush the fur out til it looks like a paint brush tip. Paint your tube to look like the Celestial Brush.
Nothing is impossible, but some things are very expensive.

My Etsy shop: http://www.etsy.com/shop/penlowe I make non-fitted custom things to ship within the continental US. I only do fitted garments for those whom I can meet in person.
