First Time Cosplayer!

Hey, I'm looking to start Cosplaying and meeting new people! I'm a bit unsure about where to start and I really have no idea what i'm doing. I would love all the help you can give with all aspects!
I'm from the UK and there aren't quite as many places to go, or as many people who enjoy this so it's difficult so if there are other people from the UK on here then please get in touch because that would be awesome too!

I'm in the UK and I'm relatively new to cosplaying too! What area are you from? There really isn't enough cosplay over here, especially down South where I live.

Thanks, that would be super helpful! I'm thinking something that would be easy and simple as a first one just to get to grips of it all

Welcome to cosplay! I'm not from the UK, but most of the things I cosplay from are. XD Since it's your first time, I would suggest that you start small. Instead of jumping in with a complex character that involves sewing a jacket with 36 pieces, making full armor, and styling a wig with a million spikes, choose a simple character, maybe one that requires very little sewing skills, or even what's considered a "found" or "closet" cosplay. Found and closet cosplays are cosplays that can be made buy buying individual pieces from different places or even pulling things from your own closet. You can get pretty accurate, too. My Ginny Weasley cosplay is a found cosplay, and I get a lot of compliments on my accuracy when I wear it. Also make sure to choose a character you love and would enjoy cosplaying. It really makes a world of difference when you've got passion for what you're doing. If I didn't love Ginny as much as I do, I wouldn't have ended up with as good of a costume. Don't be afraid of not being perfect, either. No one will fault you if your costume isn't as nice or accurate as another cosplayer's, especially since you're new. And, above all else, have FUN! A lot of people get so wrapped up in being perfect that they forget that cosplaying is supposed to be fun. I always say that the moment cosplaying stops being something I enjoy doing and becomes something I dread is the moment I stop doing it.

What sort of characters were you planning on cosplaying (manga, film, etc.)?

Hi there, and welcome. I am not in the UK, I used to but I am in Australia now.

If you're looking for people in the UK, may I suggest that you visit the UK forum in this site if you haven't yet
