American/"English" music vs. Japanese music

I dunno if anyone posted this before, cuz topics get pushed back fairly fast o_O So I'm gonna give this a shot...

Anyway, when I woke up this morning (late enough I had to rush everything mind you), my brother walked in as my CDs switched from my Never Been Kissed Original Soundtrack to my Utada Hikaru "Distance" album, and said something along the lines of "I've heard that most anime/manga fans don't listen to American music, and only really listen to the Japanese and/or asian stuff."

So in class I was wondering, because my friend had a Gackt CD with her, do most of the people who post here listen to just listen to Asian music and strongly dislike the American stuff (just like the stereotypes say), or do you like anything that sounds good really?

I've always thought it was "anything that sounds good," but apparently with the people I've met, anything that sounds good to a majority of folks annoys the bejesus out of them and they hate anything and everything that has any form of publicity on MTV, MTV2, VH1, radio stations, etc.

Yeah...there's my "thoughtful" post... Or something. Do with it what you will~

(bolded so my point is...out there )

Japanese music is *great*, but when it comes down to it, I can't understand what they're saying. So american music is great too ^_^

Hm... I listen to a lot of different cultures music. From Russian, to German, to French, Spanish, and especially Japanese. I don't listen to american music much, but I do like it. Most of the english music I listen to is either australian or from England.

Gackt... is one sexy mofo.

I don't like recent American music; I like just about everything else. XD world music. I love it. Irish, Canadian, Japanese, German, ect.... Hell, my playlist is so screwly. XD Anime tunes, polka, luau, reggea, African drum music, bagpipes... the list goes on. It's just that... American music from 1990+ just doesn't appeal to me.

I listen to anything. I just hate rap cuz it doesn't require singing or much musical talent.

When it comes to pop/rock music, I prefer American music. Japanese music doesn't do anything for me, because I listen to that type of music for the lyrics. However, my favorite types of music are soundtracks, techno/trance/etc., and classical, so the nationality of the performer(s) doesn't matter. ^^

I don't listen to Japanese/Asian music at all. I'm guessing I'm the minority here. :/

-huggles her CD collection- The only Japanese band I listen to is Shonen Knife, I have Rock Animals and Pretty Little Baka Guy. That's it. All my other 100+ CDs are all my prettyful American musics. ^^

If I had to pick, I'd have to pick American music. Nothing beats the Ramones. (IMHO)
