Can fake muscles look good?
As the title suggests, I'm wondering if the fake costume muscles (found at Party City and such), can look good in professional pictures?
I've had the idea run in my head of cosplaying Dutch, Arnold's character in the movie Predator, and I'm no where near that buff. I would of course cosplay from one of the earlier parts of the movie where he still has a sleeveless shirt and a vest on, to limit revealing fake muscles. Just leaving the arms, of course also tucking them into the fingerless shooting gloves. Predator is one of my favorite movies and I would be awesome if I could recreate it a bit. Obligatory reference pic of item in question: http://www.purecostumes.com/mm5/grap...052_full_1.jpg

I find those on the funny/hilarious side. I have seen someone use it before for a One Piece character, and it looked good. It would've been better if the muscles were real though.
Have you thought of using makeup to define your arms instead?

Same here, hence why I'm asking, lol. No on the make up idea. I really don't know how to work with make up....

I guess you could do a lot in post, but in the end a lot of shadows are going to appear in the fine wrinkles in the suit forever making it look like cloth and not like yknow.... muscles.
Additionally if you were to go through with this, which really wouldn't be TOO bad since you'll be covering it as much as possible with a shirt, you need to be able to match your skin tone to the suit, or rather, apply makeup until your skin tone is that of the suit. Good luck to you! "This will make you a sexual tyrannosaurus! Just like me." So many good quotes out of that movie.

Yeah, that's the idea.... the neckline is going to be the problem. Unless I can somehow hide with the shirt seam or something.
I'm talking about this variation (he wears gloves in earlier parts, I'd still wear them just to hide the seem between my hands and the fake muscles): http://www.starstills.com/product_im...s__38911. jpg

Yeah that makes sense if you can cut the suit and match it to the neckline of the shirt/vest. Sorry, I was looking at that Arnold pic for awhile, I forgot how much I loved ALL of his older films (Running Man in particular!).

"You're bleeding...I ain't got time to bleed" and of course, "Get to da choppa!" This was one of the few movies me and the mates happened to go see at a matinee without any previous knowledge of what the story was about. Man, that was so good. Anyway, I think you could pull it off if you find a Photographer who is also a Photoshop artist (or knows one). Someone who really understands shadowing, perspective, and blending skin tones. |

"If it bleeds, we can kill it"
I'll try that route then. Since its more likely than me doing make up thats not camo face paint, lol.

If it's not going to show, what if you used the green upholstery foam that fursuiters use to make the shapes needed for different muscles?

I'm going to go ahead and say, no, they never look good.
Even movie prosthetic fake muscles (ie, Bane in Batman and Robin) still look pretty goofy. |

It depends on how it is done and to what degree of realism you are satisfied with. I think the TV series "The Flash" had a reasonable muscle suit. I like the new Superman costume for the next movie "Man of Steel". I liked The Juggernaut in the X-Men movies.
I say, take it on as a challenge, and make it look the best you can. |

in those movies you listed - the flash, those weren't muscle suits lol. The only possible way I can think to make those look good would be to wear something over them. if you dont, it's way too easy to tell they are fabric. Plus you are missing veins as well. Also muscle suits are usually missing muscles lol. I've never seem a muscle suit with triceps.
