Tight/not-so-tight costume dilemma?

Who I'm cosplaying: http://i.imgur.com/oBmik.png

She's a superhero, so of course, like all superheroes, her costume is pretty tight. That typically wouldn't be an issue, but I'm not the skinniest. I wanted to make it out of a white t-shirt, so I bought one, but the problem is that it sags in some areas because it's not supposed to be skin-tight. I'm not really sure what to do about this, because I want it to look as correct as possible, but I don't want it to look stupid on me because it would if it was completely correct. What do you guys suggest? :/

My first thought would be to stop worrying about your body shape so much, and just do the costume that fits the character and is fun to wear.

My second thought is to put some darts/seams in the t-shirt, to tailor it so that it's more form-fitting, especially around your midsection. Some little darts halfway up the sides under the armpits, and maybe one in the center of the back. Some people in the fabric/sewing section might have some better ideas on how to accomplish this. Practice on an old t-shirt that you don't wear much any more.

What you want is a fitted garment, not a tight one. What is the difference? well, watch a couple episodes of TLC's What Not To Wear and you'll get the best lesson (I like that because it's real people with all the typical fitting issues so many of us have).

That said, even tees can be tailored to fit nicely and it isn't terribly hard, like the above said, a fer darts will do it.

The right undergarments will make a big difference too, nothing ruins a cute outfit faster than bra bulge.
