Evangelion the movie?
I own the Evangelion box set from 1995...to make a long story short, I was checking out some AMV's and saw clips that I had never seen before. HEY there is a movie! So I checked out the trailers, and saw that 1.0 reused clips from the series, but 2.0 was all new stuff.
So my question is, "do I need to see Evangelion 1.0 to know wth is going on in 2.0, or is it the same exact story just shortened up to fit in a full length feature?" Now please don't laugh at me for not knowing that there was a movie, because in the back of my mind I already knew. I just thought I could skip it because I thought it was going to be like RahXephon and it's movie which was just a shortened version of the series. THX  |

I've only seen 1.0 and it's the exactly like the anime.
Only in 2.0, they add a couple new characters. I have yet to watch 2.0. I don't know the exact date but 3.0 is coming out.

The Death and Rebirth movie is a recap and re-edit of episodes 1-24.
The End of Evangelion movie is the ending of the Eva series. The new movies: Evangelion 1.0, 2.0, 3.0 (being most recent having released in Japan in November) and Final are an alternate retelling of the series with new characters, scenes and settings and different conclusion to that of the original series and movies.
