Belle's Golden Ballgown Help
Hi, I'm making the gold ballgown the Belle wears in Beauty and the Beast. I have the pattern, I have the fabric I just need help with one thing: How do I make the "ruffles" or whatever they're called on the skirt?
I'm not talking about that dark gold band that's wrapped around the dress, but all those little bunches that's in the actual skirt. So far I'm thinking of making the shirt pieces longer than they're suppose to be and then bunch the hem lines together to make that look (if any of that made sense). My question is, is there another (proper) way to get that look? Thanks ^ ^ |

They are just ruched panels, so pretty much what you are saying is right. Make the pieces longer and then once the seams are stitched together, you just run a gathering stitch down them and gather them evenly and then finish the hem and attach the bodice and your ruching should stay.

You can do it on a machine-- just make sure you don't backstitch at the ends, and leave yourself enough extra thread at either end to pull on!
