What characters do you think are just overdone to the extreme? Who seem overdone but really aren't? Are all the popular characters/anime necessarily overdone? What are your thoughts!

One personal one I feel people THINK is overdone, but really isn't is Haruhi Suzumiya. Any character from the Haruhi anime. What do you think?

(My secret intention is to make you guys tell me if I should cosplay Haruhi or not. I don't want to do a big cosplay this year, plus I'm low on fabric and wig money ><)

However, I do recommend if you feel like cosplaying a character you feel is overdone then put your own twist on them if it bothers you.

Also, if you want to cosplay Haurhi then do it. ^^;

Just because a character is popular, that shouldn't stop you from cosplaying them. The Sailor Senshi/Scouts have been done since the beginning of cosplay itself, but people still do them, and look freaking awesome as them. Why? Because they love the characters, and that's all that matters. All the other people that tell you not to do overdone characters can go screw themselves as far as I'm concerned, because you're the one putting the effort into the costume at the end of the day, not them, and if you love the character and want to have fun being her/him, there's your answer to the "should a cosplay him/her?" question. Haters always gonna hate-- it's what you want to do that counts. Sorry for the rant, I just really hate it when someone tells me not to cosplay a character just because it's popular. IT'S POPULAR FOR A REASON: IT'S AWESOME!!!

I was really nervous about cosplaying Haruhi, my friend who came to visit was giving me her opinions on my future cosplays, this and that about overdone characters. I've been worried about cosplaying her since. But thanks for clearing my mind about those negative thoughts!

Pretty much what others said, it doesn't matter if a character is done a lot as long as you want to do it. If it worries you go for alternate versions. Maybe short sleeve Haruhi? :3

'Overdone' is a non-issue, really. What matters is that it's done well and has care and love put into it. If you like Haruhi, go for it!

Well, probably the most overdone characters are from Bleach and Naruto, years before from Inuyasha. Death Note is in the top ten too, and maybe Hellsing. And maybe Sailor Moon, but I don't think Haruhi Suzumiya is. At least I haven't seen that much Haruhi around...

If you solely want to cosplay Haruhi because you love the character, don't let the popularity of the series stop you! The 'overdone' thing really only applies if your major concern for cosplaying is sticking out in the crowd-- in that case, I could agree that Haruhi isn't the best choice.

There have been plenty of people who have cosplayed Haruhi's school uniform before, and many have done it well-- but just because someone has done it well before doesn't mean it should stop you from trying too!

If you want to be a little more unique, try adding some extra accessories that people don't usually bring along, get a group together, or try an alternate version. In the case that sticking out in the crowd is one of your priorities, an alt version lets you be unique and still have a great time as a character you love!

I would say do what you want. If it does bother you, then do different versions of the character I cosplay Luffy from One Piece who is overdone, but I have been doing the more unique version outside of the first time I cosplayed him ^.^ Also I don't see many Haruhi characters at cons anymore

I have come to realize after reading many threads/posts on cos.com that what is over-done or popular really depends on where you're located. So, really it doesn't matter overall. Do what ever character makes you happy.
