Attorney Shield & Axe Help

I currently have a very solid Phoenix Wright cosplay and have been making props (Giant 'Objection!'s, evidence, etc.) to improve on the cosplay (it is, after all, just a suit in reality). I did have the idea over the summer to create a shield which would look like the "Hold It!" bubble from the game and making a Battle Axe out of an altered "Take That!" bubble, again from the game. However, I do not know where to start in making quality-looking weaponry. I don't want these to be squishy or cheap looking. Any and all advice I will be very welcomed to.

I typically use some combination of wood, bondo, apoxie sculpt and plastic to make all of my weapons. I detail all of the builds step by step on my blog and it should give you some ideas on how to approach the concept that you have in mind. If you have any questions please feel free to ask!
