My mom made my first cosplay costume, waaay back when I was 14. I was going to a cosplay meetup at a local mall, and I wanted to go as Gino Gambino from Gaia Online (this was almost 10 years ago, back before he had the bishounen hair that went on for days. Just an awkward boy with funky eyebrows).

She did a really good job, much better than I could've done at the time. It's actually because of that costume that my mom sat me down and taught me how to sew, which proved to be IMMENSELY valuable.

My first one wasn't totally hand made just kinda found and put together for abby sciuto from NCIS, but my mom ordered my first official one(JBF Luka) from Amazon.

Same here XD I got my first coslay, Haruhi Suzumiya, commissioned on ebay. I remember convincing my dad to order it for me while my mom was away at a fitness camp (my mom was adamantly against cosplay, and still is to a degree). XD Don't be deceitful like me.

Bought it on location, at the con. I had blonde hair and brought along my replica keyblade (for reasons of I could, I guess?), so of course when I found a seller that sold an Organization 13 coat I went crazy and begged my father to let me get it so I could cosplay Roxas (I was also really young; no older than 12). No wig, didn't have anything to style my hair, no makeup, about 50 lbs heavier than I am now...it was bad. I really ought to sell that coat, now that I think about it.

Made it! I used thrift store fabric, a tablecloth, and a pair of curtains. I also made my own patterns, using a dress I had on hand and a book of theatrical costuming.

I'd been playing with my mother's sewing machine for years, so I had some idea of what to do. I'd never made human-sized clothing on my own, though. It wasn't too pretty. That took a few more years and lots of trial and error.

I actually never bought a costume (other than thrifting pieces, of course) until 2009, almost 8 years after I started cosplaying. I think at the beginning I figured it'd be too expensive (early 2000's), and that'd it just be cheaper to make it. And then I got to like the construction process, once I got better at it.

It was a closet cosplay from a local thrift store. About the only thing I "made" for it was the mask I carried around with me. I was Trowa Barton from Gundam Wing.

Bought my Akatsuki coat from the Toy's and Joy's store in person. Its an anime store thats 30 minutes away or so from where I live. ^^ I cosplayed as Itachi.
