Self Tinting Lens

Hey everyone,

I am making a gaige cosplay form Borderlands 2 and I need to tint a pair of old school industrial goggles for it. They need to be a bright yellow tint.

I have heard rumors that you can tint them with sulifian but I am really not sure how to do it well enough to just try.

Any ideas?

I don't know how readily available or common yellow lenses were for industrial goggles, but looking for a specific color is going to be tough. I'd suggest going with clear lenses, and then just grab some yellow translucent glass paint in the mosiac/glass aisles of a Micheals or JoAnns.

Rj's idea is great,

It depends of the effect you want too, do you want them to be opaque from the outside or just yellow ?

Google does not tell me much anything about what "sulfian" is. It doesn't sound like any product I've heard of.

I've used the translucent "glass" paint to tint before. The trouble with it is that you don't get a terribly great selection of colors. If you're a little bit more picky about your color selection, you can instead go with a mixture of acrylic paint and "acrylic medium". it's basically acrylic paint without any pigment. By reducing the concentration of pigment, you effectively make something translucent but still easy to brush on.

Or line the insides of clear goggles with yellow cellophane.

Theatrical gels cut to size might work.

We tint lenses all the time. You can actually tint an acrylic lens using synthetic dye, and boiling it for a few minutes.
On ebay you can also buy replacement lenses for ski goggles, motocross goggles, welding shields.. It all depends what size you want.
This one comes flat, so it will bend to whatever curve and are very easy to cut to whatever shape/size you need.
Or [http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/EYEKON-OP...3cc9b1af55]you can buy replacement lenses for sunglasses, which are more expensive and you have less of a guarantee that they'll fit..[/url].

(Bearing in mind that I didn't bother to look on Ebay.com, but just on ebay.com.au.
