Dyeing and Re-Dyeing

Hey everyone! I'm new to dyeing fabric, and I just used Rit in Dark Brown to dye some plain, light brown burlap for my Daenerys Targaryen cosplay:

However...it turned out a tad too dark and a tad too reddish. The dye has a red tint to it that's a bit difficult to tell from the photo. I'm looking for something with more of a blue/gray tint, as shown here:

The question: since I'm just trying to tint something that's already been dyed, do you think I can just use some blue dye over top? Or should I wash the color from the top and re-dye altogether? Thank you very much!

If you really wanted to just add the blue dye over it, you could, but I feel like it'd end up a little too purpley and dark, since it seems to be a washed-out greyish kinda thing.

I'd probably try to wash it out and then add a little dye over it (and keep doing so if needed--it's more of a pain to remove color) until I got the right color. iDye color remover works pretty well. I used it on silk I dyed too dark and the color got pretty much 50% lighter.

Yes, you can overdye something that's already been dyed. Make sure you wash any excess brown out first.

You might want to neutralize it with grey too. If you need to lighten it, use color remover instead of bleach.
FF9 cosplay? Hit me up!

I now have a Tumblr. Sometimes I use it.
