Bleach won't lighten...
I bought what I was told was cotton twill recently with the intention of lightening bits of it slightly. It's a dark grey and I need a dustier color. I tried putting a swatch in a bleach solution and nothing happened. Tried putting it in straight bleach. Overnight. No change at all. Do I need to just buy new fabric or is there a way to lighten this stuff?

You probably got lied too- I'd try a burn test to make sure of its fiber content. Also, bleach ISN'T the best thing to use for lightening a bit of fabric- bleach is great at destroying fibers and being uneven, and will either leave synthetics completely unaffected or completely ruined. RIT colour/dye remover will probably give you better results.

I ended up just washing and drying it on the hottest settings and it faded it a decent amount.
