Squall's Jacket, Alternative materials help?

Hey all, after a long time I've decided to get back into cosplaying and I'm looking to remake my costume of Squall from FF8.

My problem is that I'd rather not use leather or faux leather for construction as they're heavy, difficult to work with, and don't breath.

I'd like any suggestions for materials that would at least be easier to work with and less rigid, (something that breathes well would also be a plus) but still looks convincing.

My only thought so far is that I might be able to use some kind of poly/blend with a very thin backing. But something tells me that might not look too great.

Thanks in advance.

Here's the thing about Squall..His coat isn't leather..It's a "bobmer jacket"
Google that..They aren't leather..If you go to a fabric store, get a pattern for a bomber jacket and see what material it says to use. I know it's not leather for sure. I use to have one..The leather ones look bad
