Inara Costume Help (Firefly)
Hello! I'm looking to make one of Inara's beautiful costumes. My question is if anyone can refer me to patterns that might be helpful, or even search terms. I've been doing costuming for a little while, but I can't think of what to call the pieces of this gown. I'll probably smack myself later though. There aren't many good pictures, but this is what I could find!

I'd call it an over skirt. It is hard to tell what holds it up exactly, the grey upper bit in front disappears into the arms but doesn't show on the back. It may be all one piece attached to the black under dress. The back view shows straps underneath the lace shrug, so that helps with the structural elements at least.
the black dress may have a side zip that is then hidden by the over skirt, so the two button toggle in front right under the bust is functional as it holds the red part closed.

thank you! I thought that the top was a black and gold brocade or jacquard, but I think you're right. It does look more like lace!

It looks to me like this ensemble was inspired by a Ghawazee coat.

Ooooh! Thank you so much!
What do you think of this pattern (at least for the top portion). The one I'm looking at is "C." http://www.simplicity.com/p-6171-misses-costumes.aspx |
