*lol* Why not cosplay from a ended series? If we love a character and want to keep the memory alive, then do it.

Just when I think I've heard every ridiculous thing regarding cosplay that could possibly exist, someone comes along and proves me wrong.

Thanks for the laugh, Tigersoul, and everybody who responded.

Let's just make sure that people don't start suddenly believing en masse that things like this are true about cosplay. All it takes is a few gullible folks to listen to silly rumors and the next thing you know....

What? Well that's just stupid...cos-play whoever you want from whatever series you like; that is the reason we cos-play, to showcase our love of a certain character and/or series regardless of whether or not it's still ongoing.

I'm just as excited to cosplay Kenshin as I would be cosplaying any other character I like, I don't care if the series finished years ago or if it's new. If I like something I will cosplay from it, simple as that.
Same, I just finished Ukyo from Ranma 1/2. The last of the manga was published in Japan in 1996. There was an OAV made in 2008 but that's coming to be 5 years old now. Also there was the live-action special in 2011 but Ukyo wasn't in that. The only way one can consider this an on-going series is if we get confirmation of a sequel to the live-action special (it was left open-ended enough for one). Although, I'll admit it was the special that made me want to cosplay the series.

But I'm curious to know what those people think of movie cosplays. I mean, movies we know will never get a sequel. Like I cosplayed Sucker Punch and it's obvious that there won't be a sequel since the ending was too closed for one.

That thought is rather amusing. Don't cosplay from a series because it has ended or will ended? Every anime series will end at some point, if it hasn't already, so does that mean you should never cosplay at all? I mean, no matter what series it is it will end at some point, and if you're going with the idea that you shouldn't cosplay from a series that will end, I guess you'll never cosplay again a day in your life.

Nah, I'm going to keep cosplaying, even if the series I'm cosplaying from has ended. Mobile Suit Gundam ended decades ago, and I still cosplay it. :P

I cosplay from a series that had ended in 1995! When I was only like what 3? A bunch of people cosplay from series that have ended long ago. So, so what if the MLP series is coming to an end, it shouldn't keep you from dressing as Rainbow Dash

That's one of the stupidest things I've ever heard.
If that were the case, 90% of my cosplay career would be invalid.
100% now.

If you want to cosplay ongoing or popular series, do it.
If you want to cosplay old or obscure series, do it.
If you like the costume design, if you just love the character, if you just want to cosplay with friends, if you've never seen the series or played the game and you're only picking it because it has an awesome weapon or cool shoes or you like the wig, do it.
Cosplay for your own reasons, no one else's.

I want to cosplay Nokama from Bionicle.

Oops, no, I can't, she's from a series that ended in 2010 and her arc finished half a decade before that.

By this logic we should never cosplay from a movie, or a book....

Also, according to the troll, does this extend to characters who have died/left the storyline? By their logic it should, but that would just be weird (if that did happen, think of the popular pairing cosplays that would one day just disappear).

That is probably one of the most peculiar (Well, translation: Ridiculous) arguments I've heard thus far in the cosplay world.

I mean, like BlondieSundae mentioned, no one would be able to cosplay from movies or books. Even bands, singers and musicians. Heck, there would be a nice big of chunk of missing Star Wars/Star Trek cosplayers from conventions!

There is also only so many new series that come out at a given time. There are hundreds upon hundreds of anime and manga titles that exist altogther from in the last few decades, but at a present scenerio you might only get a few currently running series in comparison and even a less amount that just started anew and successful within the past year alone.

Which technically means you might only get a couple dozen types of cosplayers at one con representing only a select amount of series. Not a lot of variety. You would be practically be just seeing the same basic things over and over again. And I don't think I need to remind people on this site why variety at conventions is truly the spice of life!

Can't really treat series/cosplays as fads or have expiration deadlines and title them as dated. Nor can you just throw them away after they "Had their moment" - obviously a good quality form of entertainment sticks with people meaningfully which leads to a reason to preserve them, otherwise you wouldn't have classics like To Kill a Mockingbird, Les Miserables, Swan Lake, Sound of Music and The Godfather, and existing large fanbases for authors like Jane Austen, Shakespeare and Charlotte Brontė, or musicians like Mozart, Strauss and Beethoven, or artists like Titian, Leornado da Vinci and Édouard Manet. Many things that people still love today can be made a couple decades ago, a few hundreds ago, and in the cases of ancient classics (Homer's Odyssey or Mahabharata for example) a few thousand years ago.

And now I'm just babbling away ~

lol If this case was the truth, I would never cosplay. The majority of my cosplays are the from my favorite animes from the late 90s, early 2000s.

Naruto will end in a few years, but ill never stop cosplaying from it

all shows end, but the love the fans have for the show will never change

years from now if you were rainbow dash people would still walk up to you and say they loved the character
