I know there's definitely a lot of Wicked/Oz cosplayers, especially since "Oz the Great and Powerful" came out, but the WICKED-specific threads seem pretty old, so I don't want to revive them.
Collecting reference pictures for Elphaba's gown from WICKED is ridiculously easy, but two things I can't quite find are 1) material references, and 2) pictures of her cloak.
Elphie's non-distressed gown is the easiest bet for a month and a half of work, and it looks like a middle/heavyweight wool. Judging by how the costume concept is Edwardian and the distressed version reportedly weighs FORTY POUNDS, wool or a wool substitute might have the proper look. If I'm wrong, PLEASE correct me because I don't want to be wearing either of those to Fanime. Or in my college's theater if Halloween ends up hot and sunny.
Also, the cloak is stubborn about being shot up close without badass lighting in "Defying Gravity" shots. It looks like a standard gauze-type weave since it's so sheer and floaty, but I might be wrong since it seems completely opaque in some lights. (Although it's pretty hard to judge opacity when the cloak AND the main costume is black. Argh.)
And just as a quick question, I haven't worn green face paint since I was five. Do I need a certain brand or method of application to make sure it doesn't rub off on my costume?
