Giant Cowlick Help? (Princess Tutu)

Hi everyone!
I'm cosplaying Princess Tutu, who's costume design can be seen here, this August and need help on styling the wig.
I've never styled a wig beyond cutting the bangs and straightening it, so I'm a little intimidated by that gigantic cowlick she's got going on up there.
In addition, should I buy a wig longer than I need it to be, and just style it from there? I'm a little concerned about thickness, as well, after I style the cowlick, so if anyone has any suggestions for specific wigs or manufacturers that would be excellent.

Thank you so much!

My plan for Kraehe is to cover lightweight foam in wefts and clip it into the mesh of the wig, possibly through the cap. With some good styling glue and hairspray and hair dryer on low heat to set it over the foam, it should stay there. I've seen this work, as long as it's not too bulky you should be okay.

Wow, thank you! That's a good idea, I'm going to learn how to do this whole wefting thing. Thanks again, I really appreciate it.
