Can I dye this?!

I recently ordered the trench coat pictured below for my Castiel costume. The picture from the eBay listing looks SO MUCH lighter than the DARK GREEN coat that I received. I'm thinking they used a lot of lighting when they took the picture or something. That's all I can figure out. I was wondering if it would be possible to dye this coat to a lighter tan color?

You can check the material of the coat and then the box of the dyes tell you the materials that it will be able to dye.

You can't dye things lighter. That's not the way dye works.

agreed. Also, as it's an actual trench coat, it's probably treated to resist moisture, so even if it was lighter and you needed it darker, you probably would not have much luck.

Thanks for all the replies. I ended up just sending the coat back and ordering one from a different seller. It'll still be good to know this information for the future.
