Angel from Borderlands 2 sewing construction?

http://i618.photobucket.com/albums/t...g?t=1349477210

I'm still fairly new to sewing so I apologize ahead of time for probably not really knowing what the hell I'm talking about XD

My main two questions regarding making this are:

1.) What kind of fabric should I use? I was possibly thinking spandex and painting it? I found some helpful threads on here about painting spandex and what to use already. Or if someone has a better suggestion that'd be great as well. I'm open to ideas, again, cause I'm super new at this.

2.) How to connect the armor looking stuff on the front of her shirt to the fabric. She also has some similar armor on her back but I'm having a hard time finding a reference picture. I was thinking of connecting the armor stuff straight to the fabric and using some clips or something to take the shirt on and off so I don't stretch it too much and mess up the armor, but again if anyone has any better suggestions let me know.

Thank you ahead of time!!!

That is a VERY ambitions project for a newbie sewist. How much time do you have?

Check the prop forum for better reference on building the armor & attaching it, there are some guys there that really know their stuff.

I think you will save yourself a lot of heart ache if you buy a body suit/ zentai suit & modify it, and paint a whole lot. That much painting you will need one of the following: a very patient friend to wear it, OR a talented painter friend and patience yourself, OR make a full body duct tape dummy (which also requires a friend but for not as long a period of time).

I was thinking something like that for at least the pants but it's not all one body suit it looks like two separate pieces. I need to learn to sew one way or another, and it's not like I've never sewn before in my life. I have altered clothing and I have sewn a tank top w/ a collar from scratch and even made my own pattern for it, and that is the extent of my sewing thus far.

I'm fairly sure I can just look at the shirt and break it down into a pattern and sew it together, I just don't know what kind of material would be best. Spandex or Zenti suit material may work fine for the pants but the shirt doesn't really look like that type of material. And even for the pants the patterning on it doesn't really look my like spandex either. I'm not very familiar with fabric types.

And I'm not sure using spandex and painting it would give it the right look or not.
