[Essence_of_Aya]

Has anyone here cosplayed as Midna in her true form? This is my first year cosplaying, and I've noticed there are subtle grey and red patterns on both her skirt and cloak under the more noticeable white pattern. I've tried finding material like this and havn't had any luck. Did you guys just paint on the grey and red patterning? Help or tips would be awesome, TIA!

I painted the red patterning, but since I couldn't find a matching fabric for the grey I ignored that *uhhh shame on me xD*

I'm working on a Midna costume, and I'm planning to paint all the details on. All the Midna costumes I've seen (that I can remember) appear to have painted the designs (or just ignored them altogether).

As for tips: use fabric paint. If you can't get fabric paint in the right colours, mix textile medium with acrylics. Since you're painting on black, you want your colour to be opaque, not transparent, otherwise it won't show up. Do some tests on scrap (especially since paint will sit and dry differently on different fabrics). You might need to put down a base layer of white for your designs and then colour on top of that in order for it to show up on the black. I don't recommend that as a first choice though, since it will double the amount of work you have to do.

Thanks for the tips! I've seen a few where the grey and sometimes the red were ignored, but then a few where it was included, so I was wondering if there was that perfect patterned fabric out there somewhere, lol! I'll get to work on painting the designs
