This is the design I have so far for a gijinka of Scyther, and I'm having trouble visualizing how to do the body part. I would like an armor-ish look to it, but since I've never done something like this, I just can't wrap my mind around it.

since this is your first project id go with craft foam armor. prop tutorial would b a better place for it, but this is a good tutorial i was given http://entropyhouse.com/penwiper/cos...helmsdeep.html

Oh yeah, I was already going to use foam to make the armor, I was just stuck on, design-wise, the body part. What I've drawn already has too much of a blouse feel to me, and I would like more of an armor feel

ah! id make two shoulder paldrons and then a short chest piece

When I imagine Scyther, it's a fast swordsmen like bug.

I'd go with a small armor chest piece without any paldrons. Armor around the hips and shins. Perhaps a simple gauntlet to which you can stick Scyther's blades too.

However I'd say a helm is a must designed closely to Scyther's head design.
