fabric dye question

Hey guys! quick question. I bought some fabric online and unfortunately the color looked darker on my computer than it does in person. It's 100% cotton purple fabric. My question is, if I buy some dark purple fabric dye (or mix colors to make dark purple) do I have to take into consideration that the fabric is already purple? Basically, I don't want to make the fabric too dark. Thanks!

When you dye already colored fabric it's called over dyeing. Cut off a little strip and test it first, pay attention to your time & fully rinse & dry the test strip before moving on.

Yes I agree with Penlowe, you risk making it too dark, and, worst case, you over dye. Do the test first, and also remember to add more dye depending on how much fabric you have. In other words, one pack of rit dye WILL NOT dye a lot a of fabric!
