Question What makes your costume so important?

I was wondering why you think your costume is an important part of your character. How the costume relates to your character and how it makes you feel when you wear it.

Mine is important to me as it gives me a reason to act like someone else for a while and portray different characters, which I love to do. What about you? xx

My costume is important for me because it makes me feel skilled I guess? I make my cosplays so it feels proud to wear something that my own hands made. I also agree on the whole "being another character " shindig, especially since characters can have so diverse personalities and costumes.

Anything you deal with for a long time, you tend to become attached to. Even though I hate some of my costumes and tell friends that I want to put them through a wood chipper, I wouldn't ever part with them. Like a nurse tending to a soldier, I've spent so long fixing it up that I can't help but be attached.

That, and they just look frikkin' sweet. I like disguising myself as someone else for a weekend and pretending to be someone else. Yeah.

The most important part is how much I make it personally. I take great pride in a costume that I was directly involved in making.

I take great value in developing my skills. my costumes are important to me in that they allow me to develop many different skills and the provide a convenient way to show off my skills. It takes a great amount of dedication to make a complete costume as well, it's nice to take a step back after many months of working on something and take pride in what you've created.

The costume I'm currently working on - Merida - started out as kind of a "Challenge Accepted!" kind of costume, but now, I've become so attached to it. The movie itself is so special to me because I love the message, and that, combined with the fact that I've spent so much time and money just on the wig, has made this costume very near to my heart.

Because it's my first and only costume I made, and I'm proud that I put together something nice. It also made me happy wearing it all throughout the convention cause it felt right wearing it in such an event. Even though without it, I was already a geek inside, but cosplay seemed fun to try and I'm glad I did.

It makes me not be naked.

Seriously. It has nothing to do with feelings or characters. I'm just. Not naked.

I'm actually more outgoing when I cosplay. I tend to be kind of shy at first, even though some of my favorite characters are more sociable, so cosplaying them sort of gives me a confidence boost; and no one knows who I am when I'm wearing a wig. XD

Plus, it provides an escape from real life crap, and an opportunity to meet great people. I've learned a lot of skills making cosplay and get to be creative, and I get a sense of accomplishment from that, too.

For me, it's a creative outlet. I like creating something from scratch that is basically a piece of wearable art, not just a costume. I also enjoy the performance aspect of trying to imitate the character. The characters I choose to cosplay all have various personal meanings to me, so that's important too.

Poison Ivy - which was my first mostly handmade costume - is important because of the time spent on it and the fact that I was able to prove to myself that I can take on a seemingly impossible task. Gives me inspiration and drive for future costumes!

My costumes are important for me because thanks to them I can perfect my skills at sewing and crafting, make up, wigs and more. Also because it's fun.
