Feather Dying
Hi guys I'm planning on cosplaying as a character that has very detailed wings and I need to dye the feathers of the wings a different color. I'm not sure what would be the best way to dye the feathers like using fabric dye, hair dye, watered down paint, or plain ink would be best. Also if you guys have any tips for the process of dying them as "mess free" but efficient would be very helpful, in fact any advice while dying them would be very helpful. Thanks for reading and or helping.~

You can dye feathers with pretty much anything.
RIT Dye: http://www.ritdye.com/diy-projects/o.../dyed-feathers Kool-Aid: http://www.theflyfishingforum.com/fo...-kool-aid.html Food Coloring: http://www.ehow.com/how_5736937_dye-...ecoration.html I would skip trying to spray paint them as the spray paint never truly gets the whole feather covered and makes the feather material clump together instead of being light and fluffy. The links above look pretty mess free so hopefully one of those will help you out. ![]() |

the very best (most permanent) way to dye feathers, as well as almost all animal based fibers is with acid dyes. One example of acid dyes you are probably familiar with is Easter egg dyes.
Dharma Trading Company is just fantastic to work with, especially if you need to achieve a very specific color. |

There are also sites online you can check out that have colored feathers.

I found this yesterday when I was looking into the same thing:
A guide: http://www.ehow.co.uk/how_2105087_dye-feathers.html The dye they use in the guide: http://www.prochemicalanddye.com/home.php?cat=395 I haven't tried it yet, though. If someone more experienced want to stop me now and tell me these are horrible, please do so now before I buy them myself ![]()
